The Blank Edition
An Nahar is the leading Arabic language newspaper in Lebanon. It has a long history of standing up against political corruption. Gebran Tueini, the grandson of the papers founder and former editor-in-chief, was assassinated for his fierce criticism of outside influencers in Lebanon. The paper continued in his memory and became a leading source of courageous reporting.
Following the 2019 elections, the government had failed to form a government for months; meanwhile, politicians used the countries' media to print their excuses. An Nahar decided to take a stand and let its readers take over an entire blank edition that would turn the whole country into the largest editorial group in history. Citizens filled the pages with the future they demanded from their politicians.
